BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award. For the week ending Sept. 18, freshman men's tennis player Mario Gonzalez earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Mario is a mature freshman, who is motivated both athletically and academically," Indiana head men's tennis coach Ken Hydinger said. "He is serious about everything he does. We are pleased that he received this honor, and we know that he will continue to do go great things at Indiana."
Gonzalez, an international student from Spain, quickly made the transition from Europe to the United States and college life. Additionally, the pre-business major maintained a positive attitude throughout a variety of scheduling conflicts in the initial stages of the semester.
"As Mario's advisor, I am thrilled that he has been recognized with this award," academic advisor Scott Maxwell said. "He has shown that he is someone who is very passionate about his studies and I am confident he will be very successful here at Indiana."
