Softball Headed to Indiana State Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team continues its fall season this weekend with a trip to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Indiana State Tournament Sept. 25. The Hoosiers will face Eastern Illinois at 9 a.m., Indiana State at 1 p.m., and Parkland at 3 p.m., for a triple-header on Sunday.
"This weekend, we will look to produce more offense, maintain solid defense and continue to improve our pitching," head coach Stacey Phillips said. "We also want to improve even more on our defense by going after balls that are out of our reach to see what we can come up with. The plan is to sort of play outside of the box if you will. Overall, this weekend will help us determine tasks to tackle during the off-season in order to prepare for our spring opponents."
In their debut tournament at the Chicagoland Classic, the Hoosiers went 3-1-1 over three days of competition. Indiana recorded wins over Illinois-Chicago (1-0), Lewis (1-0) and Olivet Nazarene (3-1).
The Hoosiers' pitching unit of seniors Mariangee Bogado and Megan Roark and freshman Aubrey Hayes put on a show in the circle, combining for 46 strikeouts during the Classic.
Roark highlighted the performance, tossing a no-hitter against UIC, while fanning three in the process to lead the Hoosier pitching staff.
Bogado also shined in the Hoosier circle with 17 strikeouts against Bradley en route to the 0-0 tie at the end of the sixth inning. The Mariara, Venezuela, native had 23 overall strikeouts in 12 innings.
Hayes fanned 13 batters during her seven innings of action, while Roark struck out nine to complete the Hoosier pitching notables.
"The pitching staff did a great job of keeping the opposition off balance," Phillips said. "Their work with Coach Tarrah Beyster has proven to be very positive."
