Nguyen Featured In Sports Illustrated On Campus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's soccer freshman Lee Nguyen was recently featured in Sports Illustrated On Campus Faces in the Crowd. The piece on Nguyen was the centerfold of the Back to School On Campus Issue. The feature on Nguyen included a Q&A with SI On Campus writer Matthew Waxman.

Nguyen is the reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Hoosiers to the Oregon State Diadora Classic title. In each of the two matches on the West Coast, the Richardson, Texas, native notched a goal and an assist. Against then-No. 16 (Soccer America) Cal State-Northridge, Nguyen assisted on the game-winner to junior Josh Tudela off a corner kick and then scored his first career goal, playing give-and-go with senior Brian Plotkin.
Against the host Beavers, the 2004 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year helped the Hoosiers forge a tie after trailing 2-0 early in the second half. Nguyen assisted on the Hoosiers' first goal, setting up junior Jacob Peterson with a 1-v-1 against the Oregon State goalkeeper. He then scored the equalizer, clipping a shot over the top of the goalkeeper after beating a pair of defenders with seven minutes remaining in the second half.
Currently, Nguyen ranks fourth in the Big Ten in shots (19) and assists (20), while ranking eighth in points (6) and goals (2). The Hoosiers top the conference in every major offensive category and tied for ninth nationally in goals per game at three a contest.
The Hoosiers (4-0-2) will open the Big Ten slate on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. IU plays host to Michigan State (2-1-3) on Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. Indiana is 13-0-1 all-time in conference openers. The Chartwells concession stands will be selling hot dogs for $1 as part of Dollar Dog Day.
