Indiana State Tournament Cut Short for Hoosiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Due to weather, the Indiana State tournament was cut short today. The Indiana softball team, however, took full advantage of its three innings played against Eastern Illinois before rain forced the contest to be called at 4-0, Hoosiers on top at the start of the fourth inning.
The Hoosiers plated four runs against Eastern Illinois, beginning an offensive onslaught early in the contest with hits from senior Lauren Hines and junior Kim Richards. Hines brought in junior Tory Yamaguchi and freshman Stephanie Pellerito, who reached scoring position off walks, on a three-run homer in the first. Richards tallied an RBI double in the third sending in sophomore Julia Hamilton.
Yamaguchi reached base twice over three innings, with Hamilton pinch running for the junior catcher to score off Richards' drive in the third.
The Hoosiers return to the diamond by hosting the IU Fall Triangle Classic Oct. 2 at the IU Softball Field. IU will face Butler and Louisville during the one-day event to conclude the fall schedule.
