The whole week we prepared for a hard Big Ten weekend, with our opening matches against Penn State and Minnesota. The team was pumped to play Penn State Friday night. Penn State was ranked second in the nation, so we knew it was going to be a tough match, especially on the road. We played a great game against a tough team, but in the end they stole a couple of goals from our defense and took the match 2-0.
What made this weekend even harder was that we had to go from Pennsylvania to Minnesota in the same weekend. It was already going to be tough starting Big Ten play on the road, but making two huge trips like that made it even more challenging.
We flew to Minnesota on Saturday morning and practiced that afternoon. The team played well at practice, so we felt prepared to take on the Golden Gophers on Sunday.
It was a tough match that went to overtime. We had pretty much been dominant in the first two periods, but they were able to steal an early goal in overtime to take the game 2-1. Everyone was much more disappointed with this loss compared to Penn State because we had done so good up to their goal in overtime of keeping them on the defensive. But hey, you learn from your mistakes. Until next time, GO HOOSIERS!
