IU Softball Wraps Up Fall Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's softball team is set to host its first tournament of the fall in the IU Fall Triangle Classic Sunday, Oct.2. Making the trip to Bloomington are Butler and Louisville, who will play part in the one-day event.
"We look to continue our strong play defensively and pitch as well as we have been," head coach Stacey Phillips said. "The short time we have had in game-time situations and practice has proven to be very instrumental in meshing our new assistant coaching staff with the players. Everyone has reacted very positively and we are looking forward to individual work to help the team improve before conference starts."
The Hoosiers also will conclude their fall schedule this weekend, with games set against Butler and Louisville at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, at the IU Softball Field.
Indiana is coming off the Indiana State Tournament that was cut short due to rain. Before the Hoosiers had to exit the diamond, they brought a storm of their own. Senior Lauren Hines started the downpour smashing a three-run homer in the first, followed by junior Kim Richards who notched an RBI double to take a 4-0 lead through three innings against Eastern Illinois. The game was then called at the top of the fourth.
"Last weekend, I was upset that the rain put a damper on our offensive output," Phillips said. "We had worked very diligently offensively through the week in practice and, as a coach, it is great to see the things you work on come together when during a game. The players had to concentrate even more through the rain and they came through successfully. Megan [Roark] worked very hard to control her pitches despite the weather and she remained very strong. That is a sign of a very good pitcher."
