BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After two successful Prospect Camps, head coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball coaching staff will host a third camp on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005. The camp will be open to 2007 graduating seniors and will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sembower Field.
The camp is limited to the first 68 applicants (17 players per team) and will feature quality instruction and a pro-style workout and evaluation by the Indiana staff. The cost of the camp is only $100.
Smith was named head coach of the Hoosiers on June 22 after spending the last nine seasons at Miami (Ohio). Smith amassed a 317-220-1 (.589) career record and a Mid-American Conference regular-season mark of 152-95 (.615). He led the RedHawks to eight straight 30-win seasons, marking only the second time in program history that Miami accomplished that feat, and he finished his career in Oxford third on the all-time wins list.
Over the past five years, Smith mentored 20 different RedHawks who have either been drafted or signed Major League Baseball free agent contracts, including two in 2005. Six players have been drafted in the top-10 rounds of the draft, which includes one second-round pick, two fifth-round selections, one sixth-, one eighth- and one ninth-round pick.
