• Freshman tailback Ontario Sneed's 148 yards rushing are the most by a CMU running back in the first game of his freshman season. Sneed carried the ball 14 times and scored on an 80-yard run.
• Another freshman, place kicker Rick Albreski, was 2-for-3 on field goals in his debut. He missed his first attempt from 40 yards but converted from 30 and 39 yards later in the contest.
• CMU is now 4-2 in night games at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Friday night's loss snapped a four-game winning streak at night.
• The first instant replay of the season took place with 8:40 remaining in the third quarter. An Indiana completion from Blake Powers to Jahkeen Gilmore was overturned after the replay official determined the pass had hit the ground.
• Junior defensive back Pacino Horne, a transfer from Grand Rapids Community College, recorded the first interception of his CMU career. Sneed's 80-yard touchdown came on the next snap following Horne's interception in the end zone.
• Isaac Brown was credited with the block off a Joe Kleinsmith extra point in the fourth quarter. CMU has now blocked a kick in four of the past six home games dating back to last season.
• The loss snaps an eight-game winning streak in home openers for the Chippewas.
