BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The month of September provided a plethora of exciting moments for IU Athletics. To pay tribute to the amazing feats demonstrated by the Hoosiers, IUHOOSIERS.com hits rewind to highlight some of the best IU had to offer in each sport this past month.
Men's Cross Country
* - Finished second at the Indiana Intercollegiates.
* - Eric Redman was IU's highest finisher after capturing second-place honors.
Women's Cross Country
* - Won the Indiana Intercollegiate title for the second time in three years.
* - Wendi Robinson was IU's top finisher as she took home fourth-place honors.
Field Hockey
* - 6-1 in September including a 3-2 double-overtime win over then-No. 6 Michigan State.
* - Riding longest home win streak in program history with a 5-0 record in Mellencamp Pavilion.
* - Haley Exner earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
* - Earned highest ranking in school history (8th-9/27).
Football
* - This is Indiana's first 3-0 start since 1994, and its first undefeated month since a 4-0 start since 1990. Should the Hoosiers defeat Wisconsin, it would mark Indiana's first 4-0 start since 1990.
* - Head coach Terry Hoeppner became the first head coach since 1905 (James Sheldon) to begin his Indiana tenure with three straight wins.
* - With his four touchdown passes against Kentucky, Blake Powers became the first quarterback in school history to throw at least three touchdowns in three straight games.
* - Powers threw for at least 275 yards in each of his first two games. The last IU quarterback to throw for at least 275 yards in back-to-back games was Gibran Hamdan (310 vs. Wisconsin and 335 vs. Iowa on Oct. 12 and 19, 2002).
* - Powers' four touchdown tosses against Nicholls State marked the first time since Oct. 12, 2002 (Gibran Hamdan - four against Wisconsin) that an IU quarterback has thrown for four touchdowns in a game.
* - James Hardy paired with junior Jahkeen Gilmore to give the Hoosiers their first dual 100-yard receivers in the same game since Sept. 17, 1997 (vs. Ball State - O.J. Conner - 140 and Dorian Wilkerson - 130).
* - Throw in Hardy's 107 yards receiving in his debut at Central Michigan, and he is the first Indiana receiver since Courtney Roby in 2002 (Oct. 19 vs. Iowa and Oct. 26 at Illinois) to post back-to-back 100-yard receiving games.
* - Hardy is the first IU receiver in school history to debut with consecutive 100-yard receiving games, and this is the best pass-catching debut by a Hoosier since Duane Gunn reached the century mark in receiving yardage twice in his first five games in 1981.
Men's Golf
* - Four of the five freshmen in head coach Mike Mayer's star-studded recruiting class have seen action this fall. Drew Allenspach and Jorge Campillo have appeared in all three of the team's tournaments, while Seth Brandon and Brandon Pike have participated in one tournament. Brandon also played as an individual at one event.
* - Making his collegiate debut, freshman Jorge Campillo led the Hoosiers with a tie for 15th at the NCAA Central Regional Preview (Sept. 12-13). The Caceres, Spain, native shot a 218 (75-71-72) at the event, and his finish marked the best for a freshman playing in his first event since Ryan Cassidy tied for sixth place at the 2000 Legends Intercollegiate.
* - Campillo leads the team with a sterling 72.67 scoring average and has posted the best Hoosier finish at each of the three tournaments this fall. Sophomore Santiago Quirarte is second on the club with an average of 73.67.
Women's Golf
* - Finished fifth at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate on Sept. 24-25 in Bloomington. It marked the best finish under a Clint Wallman-coached team.
* - Shannon Johnson earned co-medalist honors at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 10-11. She became the first Hoosier to snare top honors in a tournament since Danah Ford claimed the individual crown at the 2004 Big Ten Championships.
* - The Hoosiers shot a second-round score of 297 at the Lady Northern Invitational, which is only two strokes off tying the 19th-best one-round total in school history.
* - Two Hoosiers currently have per-round averages of under 80. Shannon Johnson leads the team with a 74.78, followed by Tiffany Hockensmith's 77.00 and Elaine Harris' 78.89. If the season ended today, Johnson's 74.78 would rank fourth among single-season averages in the school annals.
Men's Soccer
* - Consensus No. 1 for opening two weeks of the season.
* - Remained unbeaten with a 4-0-3 record, continuing unbeaten streak to 12 matches dating back to last season.
* - Jacob Peterson became the 10th Hoosier to record multiple hat tricks in a career with his second on Sept. 11 against Boston University in a 5-0 victory.
* - Chris Munroe ranks ninth nationally in goals against average (GAA) at 0.41. He had a career-best seven saves in a victory over Cal State-Northridge on Sept. 16.
Women's Soccer
* - The team is 4-4 in the month of September.
* - Molly Kruger (vs. Minnesota) and Molly Beckwith (vs. Iowa State) scored their first career goals.
* - Kristen Zmijewski entered the IU record books in eighth on the most goals scored in a career with 11, with three of those coming in 2005 against Butler (1), Xavier (1) and Miami (1).
* - Indiana recorded two shutouts (Iowa State, Bowling Green) in the month.
Volleyball
* - Rachel Gerling earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her performances against Michigan and Michigan State.
* - IU broke a four-match losing streak to Michigan with a 3-2 triumph over the Wolverines on Sept. 24.
* - IU continues to be among the nation's best in blocking with 3.45 blocks per game.
