Inside the NCAA Central Regional Preview

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Beginning its quest for a third straight NCAA appearance, the Indiana men's golf team kicks off its 2005-06 campaign at the NCAA Central Regional Preview on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 12-13. Cleveland State will host the event at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland.
The event will serve as a preview to the 2006 NCAA Central Regional, which will be held on May 18-20. Seventeen teams will compete at Sand Ridge, which is ranked No. 52 in America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses ratings by Golf Digest. Sand Ridge is set up as a par 71 with a yardage of 7,085.
Three rounds will be played at the tournament with 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 holes taking place on Tuesday. Along with Indiana and Cleveland State, 15 other teams will be competing at the event, including Big Ten rivals Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin. Rounding out the field will be Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), TCU, Texas Tech, William & Mary, and Xavier.
Tournament play begins Monday, with a shotgun first-round (18) start at 8:45 a.m. (EDT). The second round (18) starts with a shotgun start following the completion of round one. On Tuesday, the final round commences with shotgun tee times starting at 8:45 a.m.
Last season, former two-time All-American Jeff Overton tied for second and the Hoosiers finished fifth at the NCAA Central Regional Preview hosted by Notre Dame. IU ended up getting shipped to the NCAA East Regional following its second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, where they tied for 18th in the 27-team field at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville, Tenn.
