So far classes are going well for everyone on the team. There is something to be said about having to start your first week of classes after coming straight from an airplane. Overall it was a good trip to sunny Los Angeles, but it is always nice to be home.
The first week of classes is always stressful, but I am pretty sure we are all surviving! As for me, I have some pretty interesting classes. One of my favorite ones this semester is called Star Trek and Religion. I know, pretty silly huh? I was a little weary to register for it because, to be honest, I have never seen an episode of Star Trek. However, to my surprise I found out at dinner on Tuesday night that among our IU women's soccer team, we have a Star Trek lover.
Yes, Beverly Markwort is a Trekkie! At least she claims to be. I believe her because she has seen almost every episode of Star Trek Next Generation, and she even had the action figures and a replica of the Enterprise. I was sure glad to hear about this because little does she know what she has gotten herself into, considering I am relatively new to the whole Star Trek idea.
So, I thank Bev in advance for helping me with my Star Trek homework and maybe a little help on writing my term paper too!
Practice this week went well. Due to rain from the Hurricane we were only able to practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday after practice, we headed off to Missouri and Iowa State to participate in the Big Ten/Big12 Challenge.
On the road is always tough, especially two weekends in a row. However on the bus trips, there are always snacks to hold us over. Basically you name the food, we have it. I mean only healthy snacks of course!
I cannot forget to mention the endless selection of movies that our team has collected. Its always the big debate, what movie are we going to watch next? Our selections this trip ranged anywhere from Mean Girls to The Phantom of the Opera. I do not think The Phantom of the Opera was well appreciated among the coaching staff. I take it Coach and Ian aren't huge fans of Opera Music!
The real reason we travel is to play soccer! Friday night we played Missouri. We came out with a lot of intensity, however despite our best efforts we fell short in the end, losing 2-0.
As a team we were a bit frustrated, but we knew we played well and just had to keep our heads up. Going into Sunday's game against Iowa State, we were hungry for a win! ISU played an excellent game, but we were just ready for that win! We ended up playing well and winning 1-0, which was AWESOME!
Even though we played at Iowa State, this game felt more like a home game due to the fact that Carrie DeFreece's entire family was at the game. It was awesome to see everyone in their IU t-shirts cheering us on. We thank them for making the drive out to see us play! Also, we had several parents at the game, and we thank them for making the long drives to come watch us play!!
That is about it for me this week. Luckily for us we are home for the next two weeks, so come on out and support us!
