BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending Sept. 4, senior men's soccer player Brian Plotkin garnered the distinction.
The Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy candidate earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after leading the consensus No. 1 Hoosiers to the 2005 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic title. Indiana knocked off No. 10 Wake Forest, 1-0, to open the classic before thumping No. 7 SMU, 4-0.
Plotkin also collected the Offensive Most Valuable Player at the 23rd-annual adidas/IU Credit Union Classic by the media. The Lisle, Ill., native scored the game-winner in both matches.
Against Wake Forest, Plotkin unleashed a shot from 25 yards out toward the right post that hit the back of the net in the 82nd minute. He scored the eventual game-winner against SMU on a header in the 12th minute. The senior midfielder also had an assist against the Mustangs and earned All-Tournament honors.
College Soccer News also recognized Plotkin naming him to its National Team of the Week for his performance at the classic. It was the second time in his career he earned the accolade.
