BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- As the Indiana volleyball team prepares for this weekend's Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., sophomore middle blocker Annie Moddrell lets IUHOOSIERS.com into this week's practice and preparation for the event.
Sophomore middle blocker Annie Moddrell
On her feeling about this weekend's tournament:
"I am just excited about the opportunity to face some teams that we have never seen before. It will be a good chance to see that part of the country, and experience the caliber of volleyball that this region offers. It will definitely be a learning experience all around for the team, and will be a great warm-up for the Big Ten season. It also allows us the chance to continue to work out the kinks in our play."
On IU's growth from the last tournament:
"We have worked a lot on what we did right at last week's tournament. We served well, which helped us collect some aces, and we blocked well, which is something we can continue to get even better at. We also have been improving on the areas we struggled in, mainly defense and increasing our hitting percentage. "
On how this week's practices have gone:
"We have been working on keeping our intensity high throughout the whole practice. We are at a good level, but can never become complacent with where we are. As a team, we are always striving to get better."
On her expectations for this weekend:
"While the victories are something we always want, as a team we want to improve on our problem areas and all-around game. We can never get satisfied with where we are. To be able to get those wins, we are going to need great execution, communication and intensity."
