Sophomore Defender, Beverly Markwort, St. Louis, Mo.
I am writing this as I sit on the bus on the team's trip home from our long weekend on the road. As I write, my mouth is on fire from the Jimmy John's sandwich I just ate on the bus ride home. I pre-ordered my Beach Club sandwich with jalapeno peppers on it, what a mistake!
Well we have certainly made our way around the Midwest this weekend. We started in Bloomington, Ind., on Thursday, and then stopped in St. Louis, Mo. (my hometown) briefly. I might add we got to eat in the Cardinal Club Room during our stop and run around on the field at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals!
Then we had a game at Missouri on Friday, and then another game on Sunday at Iowa State. We have been kind of a big deal amongst the cornfields these past few days. The total hours spent on the bus up until now, have been close to twenty hours, but we're still in good spirits. And since school has only just begun, I haven't had too much homework to do or tests to study for.
So instead, I have passed the time by sleeping, watching movies (we got to watch The Phantom of the Opera, a personal favorite), conversing with teammates and so on. We have little trouble entertaining ourselves on the bus on the IU women's soccer team. It's always a good time.
As far as soccer goes, we came into this after a pretty rough weekend in California. We had done a few things at practice this week to raise the team morale. None of us were satisfied with the results we have gotten so far.
Friday's game against Missouri felt better than our games the previous weekend, but we still lost, 2-0. We didn't drop our heads but kept on looking forward. On Sunday, we finally got what we were looking for, our first goal. That was a GREAT moment!
That was the only score in the game, so the final was 1-0. We are still keeping our heads up and looking forward. Next up, Miami Florida and Xavier!
GO HOOSIERS!
