BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In its quest to make the program's 24th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Indiana women's tennis team earned three Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings. Seniors Sarah Batty and Dora Vastag both received singles rankings, and Batty and junior Laura McGaffigan tagged a high doubles mark as announced by the ITA on Tuesday.
Batty, an All-Big Ten selection last season, is ranked No. 82 in the preseason poll. Batty tallied a 19-11 record in the No. 2 singles slot for the Hoosiers in 2004-05, with seven of those wins coming over Big Ten opponents.
Vastag, who has spent the last two seasons in the No. 1 singles spot, earned a preseason ranking of No. 90. Last year, Vastag was victorious over four ranked opponents.
Indiana, who is consistently strong in doubles, placed another pair high on the preseason ranking's list. Batty and McGaffigan, who won the ITA Summer National Doubles Championship in Bloomington and will compete in the prestigious ITA All-American tournament in October, earned a preseason ranking of No. 19.
As indicated by the rankings, the Hoosiers are set for another successful season.
