Hoosiers Ranked 60th in First ITA Poll

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team are ranked 60th nationally in the first Fila College Tennis Rankings announced the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Jan. 10. In 2005, the Hoosiers were ranked as high as No. 54 before finishing the season 58th in the ITA poll.
The Hoosiers will have 11 opponents on their 2006 schedule that are ranked in the Fila Top 75 rankings. Those teams include No. 4 Illinois, No. 18 Ohio State, No. 26 Notre Dame, No. 32 Louisville, No. 34 Middle Tennessee State, No. 48 Michigan, No. 51 Northwestern, No. 54 Minnesota, No. 61 Penn State, No. 68 Ball State and No. 73 Michigan State
In December, the Hoosiers had two individuals and a doubles team ranked in the ITA Fall Midwest Regional Rankings. Senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and sophomore Dara McLoughlin were ranked 23rd and 28th, respectively, in the 30-player singles poll, while the duo of seniors Neil Kenner and Ishtuganov came in the 15-team doubles rankings at No. 9.
Indiana will open the 2006 spring season with a double-header on Jan. 21 at the IU Tennis Center. The Hoosiers will open against defending Horizon League champion Butler at 9 a.m., before facing Bradley at 3:30 p.m.
