Hoosiers Nab Trackwire's No. 13 Ranking

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's track and field team earned a No. 13 ranking in the Trackwire Top 25 poll issued Jan. 17. Individually, three Hoosiers picked up rankings on Trackwire's Dandy Dozen list.
To open the 2006 indoor slate, the Hoosiers have recorded 12 individual first-place finishes for the No. 13 ranking. IU shares the ranking with Kansas. Additionally, Indiana is one of three Big Ten teams in this week's rankings. Wisconsin ranks third and Michigan sits at t15th.
David Neville earned two Dandy Dozen rankings. In the 200m, Neville nabbed the No. 9 slot and earned the No. 7 ranking in the 400m. At the Hoosier Open (Jan. 7), Neville claimed the 400m title with a time of 46.67. The winning time met the NCAA's provisional qualifying mark for that event and surpassed Neville's previous personal best. In the 200m, Neville earned another first-place finish at the Hoosier Classic (Jan. 14) with a time of 21.34. Neville's time was over a second fast then the next closest finisher.
Sean Jefferson earned a No. 1 ranking in the mile according to Trackwire's Dandy Dozen. Jefferson broke Jim Spivey's 23-year old record in the mile last season at the Meyo Classic with a time of 3:56.44. Twin brother, John, accomplished the same feat, making them the 14th set of brothers and the fourth set of twins to break the four-minute mile.
Stephen Haas recorded a No. 8 ranking in both the 3,000m and 5,000m. Haas is the school record holder and an All-American in both events.
The No. 13 Indiana track and field team is back in action at the season's first team scored meet. Big Ten foes Purdue and Ohio State are set to face the Hoosiers at the Indiana Open on Jan. 21. The meet is schedule to begin at noon in Gladstein Fieldhouse.
