Indiana vs. Purdue January 21, 2006 Mike Davis Quotes
Opening Statement
MD: "I thought we started off slow offensively, but our defense was pretty good. Offensively, we got the ball inside to Marco [Killingsworth], and I thought he did a good job of getting the ball back out to our guards. At the beginning of the game, our guards were not ready to shoot the basketball, and we turned down some shots. It was a game that I thought both teams played hard. I think Matt Painter [Purdue head coach] has done an unbelievable job. He lost four starters from last year, and he can still put a team on the court that can compete and play hard."
On the slow start of the game:
MD: "Defensively, we did enough to keep ourselves in the game. We really did not shoot the basketball well to open the game. They also did a great job at making sure Marco [Killingsworth] did not hurt them inside."
On Sean Kline:
MD: "That is just the play of a fifth-year senior. Sean just comes in and knows his role. He understands we need him to come in and play with energy. He was the first guy tonight to guard the post and the first guy tonight to play with energy against the post guy. We have to get other guys doing that. "
On Indiana's second half run:
MD: "During the timeout, we talked about how when our defense is doing well our offense is better. The last couple of games we have gotten off to a slow start because our defense was lacking. Then, we picked it up once our defense picked up. When we are playing well offensively, we give our guys the basketball quicker and have chances to score. Purdue made a decision tonight that they were not going to let Marco [Killingsworth] hurt them. We did not respond well to that."
