Hoosier Cheer Squads Claim Three Trophies at Nationals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University's three cheer and dance squads recently returned from the College Cheer and Dance Team Nationals on Jan. 13-14 in Orlando, Fla., with top-10 finishes.
The co-ed Cream Cheerleading Squad captured a seventh-place finish in Cheer Div. I-A. Kentucky took home the overall crown for the 15th time in the history of the competition. Indiana improved its scores from the semi-final round and topped all teams from the semi-finals. IU also topped one team that received a bye into the finals as a paid-bid squad. Indiana was the highest finishing Big Ten Conference squad in Cheer Div I-A.
The all-female Crimson Cheerleading Squad finished seventh in the All-Girls Cheer Div. I. The 16-member Pom Squad also competed in the Hip-Hop Dance Division and returned with a 10th-place finish.
"We are tremendously proud of all three squads for their accomplishments at the national competition," head program coach Julie Clements said. "Indiana was one of only two schools who had three squads competing in the three major categories for this year's national competition. To have all three squads finish in the nation's top 10 speaks so well to the quality of students we have representing Indiana University. Our primary concern is supporting our varsity sports and always will be, but it's nice to see how our skill levels rate when going against other squads from across the country."
Indiana University's Cheerleading Program will receive special recognition during several national telecasts, featuring the College Cheer and Dance Team Nationals on ESPN and ESPN2 next year. These telecasts typically start during February and run through the next championship season.
