Lucido Inducted Into Ball State's Athletics Hall of Fame

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana assistant field hockey coach Gina Lucido will be one of seven former Ball State standouts that will be inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame. Lucido, along with three former field hockey teammates from the record-setting 1994 team, will officially be inducted at a banquet on Feb. 3 and honored at Ball State's men's and women's basketball doubleheader the following day.
The four senior members of the 1994 field hockey team, Cathy Basso, Lucido, Mindy Pretzman and Ashleigh Schoultz, led the Cardinals to unprecedented heights with all four earning All-America honors in their final campaign. The foursome led Ball State's field hockey team to the 1991, 1993 and 1994 MAC Championships and to NCAA Championship appearances in 1992 and 1994. They also led the Cardinals to a ranking of sixth in the nation in 1992, and were part of the 1993 team that became the first in school history to hold all 10 of its MAC opponents scoreless. The four ended their careers after helping Ball State to a 61-19-2 overall record for a .756 winning percentage, including a 30-3 regular-season record against league opponents for a .909 winning mark. During their career, Ball State was ranked in the regular-season national field hockey poll 27 times, including 20 times in the top-10.
A four-year letterwinner and three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic honoree, Lucido earned the inaugural Edith A. Patton Memorial Scholarship for academics and athletics. The award honors the school's student-athlete who has excelled academically and athletically and embodied outstanding character, exemplary leadership and overall personal integrity. Additionally, the Hoosier assistant was a unanimous selection to the All-MAC team as a senior, earned third team All-American accolades and was a two time NFHCA first team All-Midwest selection.
Lucido, who will enter her sixth season with the Hoosiers in 2006, has been instrumental in Indiana field hockey's ascension into the national spotlight. Last season, Lucido helped guide the Hoosiers to their best season in program history that included a NCAA Tournament berth and an Elite Eight finish.
Prior to coming to Bloomington, Lucido had coaching stints at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., and Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. At Susquehanna, she doubled as an assistant field hockey coach and served as the head lacrosse coach. As a field hockey coach, she was the primary recruiter and coordinated the defense as well as the pre- and post-season conditioning of the team.
From 1995 to 1997, Lucido served as the assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Bucknell. Her responsibilities included all facets of coaching and recruiting duties as well as coordinating the spring season.
