BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 13/11 (AP/Coaches) Indiana men's basketball team held an open practice on Friday, Jan. 27, as the team prepares for its road trip to Minnesota. The Gophers will host IU on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1p.m. The game will be televised on CBS to 58 percent of the nation. It can also be heard on the IU Radio Network. The following quotes are from practice.
Senior Guard Marshall Strickland
On the Big Ten Conference:
MS: "It's this way every year. Teams come out hard but it's the teams that come out hard and prove themselves that end up on top at the end."
On important of Sunday's game:
MS: "It's huge for us. We need to get a quality road win. We just need to stay in the hunt. If we lose this one, we are kind of throwing ourselves back against the wall."
Senior Forward Sean Kline
On the importance of a road win:
SK: "We need a road win. Road wins are huge. Every win is huge in the Big Ten. It makes this game more important because we have not had a good showing on the road, and we need to prove ourselves if we want to win the Big Ten."
On his role in Sunday's game:
SK: "I expect to be a contributor. Whether it is getting defensive stops, rebounds or putting up shots when I have the opportunity."
Head Coach Mike Davis
On the importance of getting a road win:
MD: "It's a tough thing to do in the Big Ten. You have to be ready to play defense. You can't send the home team to the free throw line 30 times. If you want to win a game, you have to get to the free throw line. Our last two road games we've had some players out. We have to get some people healthy and then we will be ok."
On Minnesota's defensive press:
MD: "It's only a problem if we turn the ball over. Last year, I think we handled it well here. We are definitely working on breaking it and hopefully that will help us."
