BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending Jan. 2, senior forward/guard Jenny DeMuth earned the honor. This is the second award for DeMuth this year, as she won it for the week ending Dec. 11 as well.
DeMuth turned in two solid games over the course of the week to help Indiana open the season with two-straight conference wins, something the Hoosiers haven't done since 2001-02. In IU's conference-opener against Iowa on Dec. 29, DeMuth recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, which marked her fourth of the season and 14th overall. She went 5-of-10 from the floor, and registered four assists and a steal. The Highland, Ind., native continued to help out in all aspects of the game on the road against Penn State on Jan. 1. She finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals, which helped IU beat the Lady Lions for the first time ever in State College as well as snap Penn State's 26-game home Big Ten win streak.
DeMuth earned the IU Athlete of the Week honor from a list of deserving nominees. The list included sophomore guard/forward Robert Vaden (men's basketball).
Hoosier Honor Roll
Sophomore Guard/Forward (Men's Basketball):
Robert Vaden posted a school record going a perfect 6-of-6 from behind the three-point arc against Ball State on Dec. 31. He also equaled his career high with 22 points for the second time in as many games.
Over the last two games, Vaden is a perfect 10-of-10 from beyond the three-point line, another school record. He is nearing the NCAA record held by Northwestern's Todd Leslie, who made 15 consecutive three-pointers over a four-game stretch in 1990. Vaden currently ranks fifth in the Big Ten with 2.5 three-pointers made per game and is a key force behind the Hoosiers leading the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.492).
