What's In My Bag? - Katie Carlson

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. IUHOOSIERS.com recently asked each member of the Indiana women's golf team what clubs they carry around the links. In the upcoming weeks, each IU golfer will let us take a look inside what is in their bags. Katie Carlson, a senior four-year letterwinner from Livonia, Mich., is next.
Overall
KC - I have had a lot of changes in my equipment over the past year. I have a new set of irons, a new putter, heaven wood, and wedges. The new equipment is great because it is fitted to my game and swing. I have a lot of confidence in all of my clubs; this alone takes my game to a higher level. In addition, having my clubs fitted to my swing gives me very accurate and consistent shots. Overall, I am very pleased with my equipment this year.
Putter
KC - I use a Scotty Cameron center shafted Red-X putter. I started using this putter on spring break last year. The switch from a heel shafted putter to a center shafted putter has made a huge difference in my putting. I am more comfortable with my alignment and set up with the center shaft. Also, I have a better feel on the greens with this putter. All of these factors give me the confidence to make putts.
Woods
KC - I have a TaylorMade R7 quad driver. I got this driver last spring and it has helped me tremendously off the tee. Since I have gotten the R7, I have become extremely accurate off the tee and I have also gained some distance. I also carry Callaway Steelhead III 3 and 5-woods. I have had these woods for several years. I particularly like using my 3-wood off the tee to a tight fairway. My 5-wood is the club that I use most often for long fairway shots. In addition, I also have a Callaway 3H heaven wood. I am able to use it in a wide variety of lies while still getting a lot of distance.
Irons
KC - I added new Callaway X-18 graphite shafted iron to my bag last spring. I carry a 4-iron through pitching wedge. They are specially fitted to my swing. This gives me more accurate and consisted shots. My new irons allow me to hit a variety of different shots to handle various situations on the course. I don't have one particular iron that I like best, because I have hit great shots with all of them. Overall, I am confident with all my irons and glad I made the change.
Wedges
KC - I just got two new wedges recently. I have a 56 and 52-degree Ping Tour wedges. Since they are brand new I haven't had a chance to use them in a tournament. However, the wedges are a better fit for me and will give me a lot more control and accuracy around the greens.
Ball
KC - I use the Callaway HX Tour. I like using this ball because it has a soft feel and still gives me a lot of distance.
