Hoosiers Add Kevin Happ to Signing Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Ray Looze and the Indiana University swimming and diving program announced the signing of Kevin Happ (Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School). He joins Chris Oleksiak (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Jensen Ried (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Springs) and Drew Sease (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) as part of the incoming class of 2006.
"Kevin Happ is an all-around swimmer from the Northern Ohio area," Looze said. "We expect him to be able to develop in a number of different events. His versatility and his work ethic attracted us to Kevin."
A four-time All-American, Happ also earned all-state recognition in the 200 IM and 100 back as well as claiming the 2004 district championship in the 100 back. Additionally, Happ led his squad to a 20-3 dual meet record in 2003 and 2004, including a pair of district titles during that span. On the club circuit, Happ swam for the University Swim Club at the 2005 U.S. Open and the 2005 Spring Sectionals. At the U.S. Open, he helped his 800 freestyle relay to 13th place, and finished ninth in the 100 back and 14th in the 200 back at spring sectionals. Furthermore, Happ competed at the Counsilman Classic in 2004 and 2005.
"I chose Indiana because the team and coaches are great, and I want to be on the best Big Ten team," Happ said. "I had a great feeling the instant I visited the campus. Everyone made me feel right at home. Plus, I always swim fast when I am in their pool."
Away from the pool, the son of Cindy and Robert Happ participated in Orchestra, Spanish Club and Astronomy Club. He also earned high school honors during his time at University.
