BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Ray Looze and the Indiana University swimming and diving program announced the signing of Christopher Head (Evansville, Ind./North). He joins Kevin Happ (Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School), Chris Oleksiak (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Jensen Ried (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Springs) and Drew Sease (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) as part of the incoming class of 2006.
"Chris will really help us in the 200 fly," Looze said. "He also brings an outstanding work ethic to our team."
A two-time letterwinner for North, Head chose to switch to the club circuit exclusively during his last two seasons. As a member of the Greater Evansville Aquatic Team swim club, Head participated in the 2004 Junior National Championships. While swimming for NHS, Head earned academic all-city both seasons and claimed second team all-conference as a sophomore. Meanwhile, Head picked up the Kiwanis Mental Attitude Award both his freshman and sophomore campaigns. Additionally, Head holds school records in six individual and three relay events as well as the city standard in the 500 free.
"Indiana University has a rich tradition in swimming and academics," Head said. "Along with the campus atmosphere, there is no other college I would want to attend."
Scholastically, the son of Susan and Michael Head is on pace to graduate magna cum laude. He also served on the student and class councils as well as the fall homecoming court. Moreover, Head is a member of the Spanish Club and garnered the citizenship rating at NHS all four years of his prep career.
The Hoosiers anticipate announcing more signees in the weeks to come. Keep an eye on IUHOOSIERS.com for any developments.
