BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Jamie Broback scored a season-high 26 points and Kelly Roysland tied her career high with 19 points as No. 17 Minnesota held off Indiana 69-64 Monday night.
Indiana (8-7, 2-2 Big Ten) overcame a 12-point deficit in the first half and took its last lead at 41-39 on a fast-break basket by Jenny DeMuth 7 minutes into the second half. Two baskets by Broback then started a 13-3 run as the Gophers (10-3, 3-0) took the lead for good.
A 3-pointer by DeMuth, who led Indiana with 18 points, pulled the Hoosiers within 54-49. Indiana's next 10 points came on free throws and the Gophers stayed comfortably in front the rest of the way.
Cyndi Valentin added 13 points for the Hoosiers and extended her season free throw streak to 60 in a row, tying an NCAA Division I record.
Consecutive 3-pointers by Valentin and Nikki Smith to start the game gave Indiana the early lead. Valentin had seven of the Hoosiers' first 12 points, but she did not score the rest of the half, and a flurry of 3-pointers helped Minnesota take control.
Roysland had two 3s during a 14-4 run that put the Gophers up 24-18 with under 6 minutes to go in the opening period. Then, after two free throws by DeMuth, Roysland got her third 3, and the Gophers widened the lead to 33-21 on a basket and free throw by Broback with 1:28 to go.
Another 3 by Smith and two more free throws by DeMuth cut it to 33-26 at halftime, then the Hoosiers scored the first seven of the second half to tie the game at 33. There were three more ties before the decisive Minnesota run.
