Women's Soccer Vaults into Top 25

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team (8-2-4, 4-0-1 Big Ten) has been ranked 16th in the country in this week's NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) poll, released on Tuesday, Oct. 10. This is the first time this season the Hoosiers have appeared in the Top 25. IU has not lost since Aug. 27, an unbeaten streak of 12 games.
The Hoosiers defeated Evansville 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and tied Penn State 0-0 Sunday, Oct. 8, this week. The Hoosiers also moved into SoccerBuzz.com's national rankings, checking in at No. 24. Indiana is ranked second in the Great Lakes region by the NSCAA and third in the region by Soccer Buzz.
Indiana's 12-game unbeaten streak is the second-longest in program history, trailing only a 14-game run from Oct. 3, 1993-Sept. 14, 1994. It is also the fifth-longest current streak in the nation, trailing three undefeated teams - Notre Dame, Navy and Villanova - and national powerhouse North Carolina.
The Hoosiers face a pair of Big Ten opponents this weekend at Armstrong Stadium. Wisconsin comes to town on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. EDT, while the Hoosiers will host Northwestern on Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon. Sunday's contest will be Senior Day, the final regular-season home game for IU's Ali Brown, Carrie DeFreece, Lauren Dieter, Lauren Lamping, Megan Pipkens and Shannon Vnoucek.
