Indiana Game Notes
Indiana vs. Iowa
Oct. 14, 2006
• The Hoosiers recorded their first win over a top-15 squad since Oct. 10, 1987, when IU toppled then-No. 9 Ohio State, 31-10. It was Indiana's first win against a ranked opponent since Oct. 30, 2004, when the Hoosiers bested 24th-ranked Minnesota 30-21.
• James Hardy's three-touchdown game made him the first Hoosier with three TD catches since Duane Gunn performed the feat against Minnesota on Oct. 8, 1983. He moved his career touchdown total to 14 on the day, tying Rob Turner, Gunn and Bill Malinchak for fifth on the all-time list.
• Hardy's two-score day marked the third time this season that a Hoosier had more than one touchdown in a game this year. Marcus Thigpen had a pair of TD runs against Southern Illinois, while Josiah Sears had two scores on the ground against Illinois.
• Hardy posted his sixth-career 100-yard game in the contest and his second such game against Iowa. In his career, Hardy has 20 catches for 307 yards and four touchdowns in two games against the Hawkeyes.
• Kellen Lewis set a career-high with 255 yards passing and three touchdowns on the day. Those totals eclipsed his previous totals of 240 yards and one score, against Illinois and Ball State, respectively.
• Lewis' two-yard TD scramble was his third touchdown run of the year. Lewis ran for touchdowns against Ball State (9/9) and Illinois (10/7) earlier this season.
• Austin Starr's 46-yard field goal at the end of the first half was a career long. His previous best was his 35-yard game-winner against Illinois a week ago.
• Damian Sims' fumble in the third quarter was forced by IU's Austin Thomas, his second forced fumble of the season and his career. Fellow redshirt freshman Josh Bailey registered his first career fumble recovery on the play.
• Thomas matched a career-high with 11 tackles in the contest, while Bailey notched a career-best with three tackles for loss in the game.
• Left guard Pete Saxon made his first career start in Saturday's contest. He is the second true freshman to start on the offensive line this year (Rodger Saffold) and is the 11th true or redshirt freshman to start for IU this year.
