During the 2006 season, IUHOOSIERS.com will give women's soccer fans an insider's look at what it's like to be a member of the team. Every Tuesday, a different Hoosier will bring her view of the weekend's events to IUHOOSIERS.com. The entry for Tuesday, Oct. 17, is by freshman Jessica Boots.
I don't really know how to start this. This past weekend was full off happiness, and smiles, but also disappointment and tears.
It all started off Friday with our normal pre-game meal. But wait, this one was different - we got chicken kabobs. A little change-up. Needless to say the girls were pretty excited.
The game Friday night was against Wisconsin. We started off a little sluggish and went into halftime with a tied game at 0-0. We came out in the second half as a completely different team ready to put this game away, we came with confidence to win rather than trying not to lose. We ended up winning 1-0 with a goal from me, Jessica Boots, off a high cross by Lauren Lamping. Everyone was pretty pumped and this added to our unbeaten streak of 13 games.
Saturday morning we woke up and had film at 9 a.m. Everyone walked in tired and half-awake as coach was full of energy and probably had been up since 4 a.m. on was on his third cup of coffee. Anyway, we watched film then had the rest of the day off.
I attended the tailgate of the IU football game with my parents and some of the other freshmen. IU ended up having a thrilling victory over Iowa. That night we had a team gathering and the freshies had to put on a skit impersonating, or just making fun of, all the other girls on the team. Overall I feel we did pretty well making them laugh quite a bit.
Sunday we had breakfast at the Stewart's house. Once again it was just delicious and we are all very thankful for their hospitality. Sunday we played Northwestern and it was senior day. We have six seniors - Ali Brown, Megan Pipkens, Shannon Vnoucek, Lauren Dieter, Lauren Lamping and Carrie DeFreece - who we all love and will miss very much.
Unfortunately, our last home game ended up being a rough one. We lost the game 1-0 and were all devastated. We played hard and gave 100 percent effort, but just weren't able to get the job done. Though we were all upset, I think this will make us stronger and determined to work that much harder for what we really want. We are moving on and focusing on the next games ahead.
