This women's soccer season, IUHOOSIERS.com is taking an insider's look at the Hoosiers. Part of that will be the captain's log, where every Thursday one of the Hoosiers' tri-captains will give her view of IU's week. The entry for Thursday, Oct. 19, is by senior Shannon Vnoucek.
"One of the lessons we said we would try to learn from this is maybe we're not invincible," IU head coach Mick Lyon said.
Sunday's game against Northwestern was probably one of the toughest losses in my college soccer career. I don't know if was because they have beaten us three out of the four times we have played them (including each of the past three years), or because it was our senior day, or because it was the last time I would have the chance to play on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium (except when we make it to the NCAA tourney and get home field advantage!). Whatever the reason, it sucked and I think everyone on the team would agree. We move on and keep on truckin' though, because that is what IU women's soccer is about.
This week has gone by so fast. I think it's because many of us were disappointed with the result on Sunday and are ready to get back on the field. This weekend we play Iowa and Illinois, two teams that always put up a fight. This next game is our most important and I think we all realize that as we prepare for the weekend.
Wednesday's practice was intense as usual. We played in the football stadium where we managed to acquire some spectators. The game was fairly even as both team had some good opportunities to score. Carrie DeFreece, Kristin Arnold, and Megan Pipkens were the goal scorers of the night. But I can't forget Lauren Dieter's shot on goal from about 70 yards out. Good job Lauren, I enjoyed that!
This weekend is essential for us, but I am confident that we can bounce back and get good results.
