Yeagle Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana freshman midfielder Darren Yeagle was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Kentucky and Michigan State this past week, the conference office announced Oct. 2.
"Darren is one of the most explosive players in the Big Ten," head coach Mike Freitag said. "He has been a key member of our offensive production this year. This is a well-deserved award for him."
It is Yeagle's first career Big Ten Player of the Week award. He leads Indiana with five goals and 11 points on the year.
Against Michigan State, Yeagle scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute to give the Hoosiers their first Big Ten win of the season. After a Spartan defender slid to deflect senior John Michael Hayden's shot, Yeagle shot the deflection into the goal to give Indiana a 2-1 win.
Yeagle also had a hand in Indiana's first goal of the game, getting pulled down inside the box by Michigan State's David Hertel and earning the Hoosiers a penalty kick in the 63rd minute, which was netted by Hayden.
The last freshman to claim weekly honors for Indiana was Lee Nguyen on Oct. 31, 2005.
Indiana returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, against Louisville at 7 p.m.
