EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Hoosiers completed their time at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Michigan State. Several players earned wins in consolation to close out the day.
After falling in the main draw, senior Laura McGaffigan, sophomores Sigrid Fischer and Alba Berdala, as well as freshman Lindsey Stuckey, all won in consolation matches.
"Alba (Berdala) had a nice win against one of Notre Dame's top recruits," said head coach Lin Loring. "Notre Dame was fourth in the country last year, and that was a good win for her.
"I am pleased that Lindsey (Stuckey) was able to go 4-1 in the tournament and reach the main draw," Loring said. "Erin (Clark) also had a good win in her qualifying round, against Alex Seaton, who transferred to Minnesota this season after competing as the No. 1 player at Colgate last year."
Berdala defeated Notre Dame's Kali Krisik, 7-6, 6-3 in consolation. Fischer earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ashley Moccio of Western Michigan, while McGaffigan won, 6-2, 6-3 over Wisconsin's Elizabeth Carpenter.
Stuckey beat Priyanka Parekh of Western Michigan, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 in her consolation match.
The Hoosiers also fell in doubles action, as Joanne Schickerling and Jennifer Migan of Indiana State defeated the team of Fischer and senior Cecile Perton, 8-5.
Indiana will complete its fall schedule at the Western Michigan Duals, Nov. 3-5.
