10 Questions With Chris Munroe

Junior goalkeeper Chris Munroe has played in four games this season. He had a shutout early in the year against No. 8 Creighton on Aug. 25, and came in against Big Ten rival Penn State on Oct. 20. Munroe sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Barcelona, Spain. I've heard a lot of great things about the city, including the beaches and culture. I think it would be a lot of fun.
Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
The importance of time management. Being so busy with soccer and school and everything else, you have to prioritize and learn what to get done first and what to save for later.
What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
Basketball. I've played it just as long as I've played soccer, and I love it. That is one of the main ways that I try to stay in shape and have fun.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My dad, because he's worked really hard in everything that he has done. He has set a really good example for me. He's just an all-around good guy.
What is your favorite soccer memory?
Winning the national championship in 2004. It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and time put in by everyone. It was a great achievement.
Describe your presence on the field. What do you bring to the team?
I try to bring a positive attitude and positive energy to everything that we do. I want to make sure everyone is having a good time, but still focus on what needs to be done.
What do you like best about Coach Freitag?
His passion and his enthusiasm for the game. No matter if it's a warm up drill or a speech right before a game, you can tell how much he cares about the game and the players, and that's really nice to see in a coach.
What makes Indiana special from any other program?
The winning tradition that no other college can match. The unprecedented run of success that we've had over the last 25 years, which is something that other schools wish they had.
What are your pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I really don't have too many. I'll say a prayer before the game starts, and I'll tap my shoulder twice, then run and jump up and touch the crossbar. I've done that for many years.
Do you have a nickname that your teammates gave you? What is it and why?
I have many nicknames that I have been given over the years. None of them are self proclaimed, unlike Kevin Robson. They include Slash, Mongroe, The Green Goblin, Monrovia and Birdman. Ofori Sarkodie calls me C-Money. One of my favorite ones that nobody uses is the one that Coach (Jerry) Yeagley gave me when I was a freshman, Stork. I came in to preseason camp and weighed 25 pounds less, and got nicknamed Stork by the big man himself.
