Coach's Corner With Mike Mayer

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Before heading to Wilmington, N.C., for The Landfall Tradition, men's golf head coach Mike Mayer took the time to speak to IUHOOSIERS.com about the upcoming tournament.
His thoughts on the tournament:
"It's great to get the opportunity to compete in an event like The Landfall Tradition. It's such a prestigious event and it is a great honor to get invited to play there. It is yet another outstanding field, and we will have to be at the top of our games to be competitive. It will be interesting to see how we handle this tournament after playing in the Big Ten/Pac10 Challenge. We have challenged our student-athletes to be prepared, both academically and athletically, for the challenges of playing in both of these events in a one-week time frame. I think we are mentally tough enough to handle things, and I think we will be very competitive."
On sophomore Jorge Campillo:
"This is yet another chance for Jorge Campillo to show his stuff to the golfing world. He is such an outstanding student-athlete and will be, without a doubt, one of the best collegiate golfers in IU history. I thought Jeff Overton's records were pretty safe, or at least would be safe for a long time, but Jorge has already topped one of them in freshman scoring average and he might go after a few more before he is through."
On sophomore Seth Brandon:
"We are going into Seth Brandon's domain when we go south to play golf. Seth was a pretty dominant force in amateur golf this summer in the southern part of the country and in his home state of Georgia, and I think he will feel very comfortable playing at The Landfall. Seth needs to feel what it is like to win a collegiate tournament again and The Landfall could be the place."
On sophomore Dew Allenspach:
"Drew Allenspach is also from the south (Texas) and is comfortable playing on southern grasses and in southern conditions."
On freshman Alex Martin:
"The Landfall will be Alex Martin's third very tough tournament in-a-row and that kind of tournament experience is invaluable for a freshman. Hopefully, he can use that experience to continue to improve and adjust to collegiate golf."
On junior Santiago Quirarte:
"Santiago knows what it is like to playing a grueling schedule and should be able to handle all the elements and conditions. Being from Mexico, he is also very comfortable playing off all turf conditions and that should aid him at The Landfall."
