Indiana Set To Compete At Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference has released the bracket for the 2006 Big Ten Men's Soccer Championships, held Nov. 2-5, on the campus of Ohio State. The Hoosiers (12-4-2, 4-1-1 Big Ten) clinched the No. 1 seed with their 1-0 victory over Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 27, and receive a first-round bye.
Indiana will play its first game of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. The Hoosiers face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 4 seed Penn State (6-10-2, 3-3-0 Big Ten) and No. 5 seed Northwestern (11-6, 2-4 Big Ten). The Nittany Lions and the Wildcats play on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m.
No. 3 seed Wisconsin (9-7-2, 3-2-1 Big Ten) takes on No. 6 seed Michigan (6-9-4, 1-2-3 Big Ten) at 1:30 p.m. in the opening round. Second-seeded Ohio State (9-6-3, 3-2-1 Big Ten) will face seventh-seeded Michigan State (10-6-2, 1-3-2 Big Ten) at 4:30 p.m.
The championship game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Noon. The game will be televised live on CSTV, and the winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Indiana has won or shared the Big Ten regular season title 12 times, and has won or shared the tournament title on 10 occasions. The Hoosiers last won the title in 2003. The last two seasons, Indiana fell to eventual champions Michigan State (2004) and Penn State (2005) at the tournament.
All tournament matches will be played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. All-session passes are $15 for adults, $10 for students. Single session passes are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
