BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers have had a lot of success against Louisville over the last several years. The team will be looking to continue its winning streak over the Cardinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium.
Hoosier News and Notes
• Indiana is on a four-game unbeaten streak after earning its first Big Ten win of the season with a 2-1, double overtime victory over Michigan State on Saturday, Oct. 1. Freshman Darren Yeagle scored the golden goal in the 107th minute off a shot that a Spartan defender attempted to clear away from the front of the net.
• Yeagle was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Michigan State and Kentucky.
• Indiana moved back into the National Coaches Association of America poll at No. 14 after a two-week absence. The Hoosiers are ranked second in the Great Lakes Region behind No. 1 Notre Dame.
Scouting Louisville
• Louisville comes into tonight's game having played some tough matches this year, including a 1-1 tie with Kentucky, and 2-1 losses to ranked teams Maryland and West Virginia. In their last game, the Cardinals defeated Syracuse, 4-0, on Sunday, Oct. 1.
• The Cardinals are led in scoring by David Guzman (six goals, four assists) and Frank Jonke (four goals, four assists).
• Defensively, Joey Watson and Ryan Meyer have been the backbone of the team. In goal, David Simolike has 38 saves on the year.
• Indiana has a 13-0 lead in the all-time series. The last four games have all been decided by the score of 2-0, including last year's game. Senior Josh Tudela scored both goals in Indiana's victory last season. In those 13 games, the Hoosiers have outscored the Cardinals 49-3, and have not allowed a Cardinal goal since 1992.

Head coach Mike Freitag previews the team's upcoming game with Louisville.
This will be another challenging match for us. Although Louisville does not have the record that they may want to have, the team is tough. I've seen them play in person, and came away very impressed. They have several dangerous players, as well as a good coach in veteran Ken Lolla.
Our team is ready to get after it on Wednesday night. As I've said before, I like the character of this team and they know what they need to do to get it done.
Outshooting Opponents
• The Hoosiers are averaging 14.9 shots per game, while their opponents are averaging just 8.7 shots per game.
• On four occasions this year, Indiana has held its opponents to six shots or fewer. The team outshot No. 8 Creighton 22-6, UAB 19-5, No. 2 Connecticut 17-3, and Kentucky 15-6.
• No. 2 Connecticut was held without a shot until the 74th minute of the game.
• Kentucky came into the game ranked third in the nation in scoring offense (3.11 goals per game).

• Indiana holds a 74-33 advantage in corner kicks against opponents this season.
• The Hoosiers have totaled two goals this year directly off corner kicks.
Overtime Is Our Time
• Of 11 games this season, seven have gone into overtime. Indiana is 4-1-2 in overtime games. The lone loss was a 5-4 loss to Notre Dame on Sept. 3. The latest that the Hoosiers have scored in a game that they won was against Michigan State on Oct. 1, as Darren Yeagle netted the game-winner 106:48 into the game.
Smiley Scores
• Freshman Darren Yeagle (nicknamed Smiley by his teammates) leads the Hoosiers with 11 points on the year (five goals, one assist).
• He was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Kentucky on Sept. 27 and Michigan State on Oct. 1. Against Michigan State, he scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute, and was taken out in the box to earn the Hoosiers a penalty kick that tied the game in the 63rd minute.
Youth Reigns
• Freshman Darren Yeagle leads the Hoosiers with 11 points on the year (five goals, one assist). His last goal came against Michigan State on Oct. 1.
• Sophomore Brian Ackley also has four goals on the year, and is third on the team with eight points.
• Sophomore Brad Ring has scored twice.
• Freshman Eric Alexander has two assists on the year, while sophomore John Mellencamp has one.
Can I Help You?
• Senior Kevin Robson leads the team with four assists on the year, while senior John Michael Hayden has three.
• Robson had an assist against Kentucky, two assists against Tulsa, and an assist against No. 2 Connecticut.
• Hayden had assists against No. 8 Creighton, UAB and No. 15 Notre Dame.
Running Roby
• Senior Kevin Robson has three goals on the year and is second on the team with 10 points. He scored two goals against Michigan on Sept. 24, and had an assist against Kentucky on Sept. 27.
• He earned Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against No. 21 Akron and Michigan.
Recapping the Michigan State Game
• Freshman Darren Yeagle scored the golden goal in double overtime to give the Hoosiers their first Big Ten win of the season, 2-1 against Michigan State at Oct. 1.
• Yeagle came through in the 107th minute, as senior John Michael Hayden took possession of the ball at the top of the box. His shot was deflected by a Spartan defender, and Yeagle put the rebound into the back of the net.
• Michigan State took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute with a well-played throw-in. With a flip throw, Spartan David Hertel put the ball in front of the goal just out of goalkeeper Chay Cain's reach, and Kenzo Webster knocked it in for the score.
• Indiana tied the score in the 63rd minute, as Yeagle sprinted down the sideline, marked closely by Hertel. Yeagle made the right turn inside the box, and was tripped up by Hertel, earning the Hoosiers a penalty kick. Hayden stepped to the penalty spot and buried the shot into the lower left corner.
Freshman Phenoms
• Darren Yeagle has started in all 11 games for Indiana. Yeagle scored his first career goal against No. 2 Connecticut on Sept. 1. He currently leads the team with 11 points (five goals, one assist).
• Kevin Alston started in eight of Indiana's first 11 games, while Eric Alexander has started the last four. Ofori Sarkodie has three starts on the year.
• Freshman Lee Hagedorn has also seen playing time.
Hoosiers Lead Nation in Attendance
• The Hoosiers are one of college soccer's most watched teams year in and year out. This season, Indiana is averaging 3,518 fans per contest after four home games.
• Last year, Indiana finished second in the nation in average attendance, pulling in 3,112 fans per game.
• During the 2003 campaign, IU led the nation in total attendance with a total of 28,778 attending Armstrong Stadium for 13 home affairs. Indiana averaged 2,214 for home matches, which ranked third nationally. In 2004, the Hoosiers averaged 2,385, leading the nation.
• The Hoosiers have a history of drawing large crowds. Indiana ranked among the top three in average attendance in 2001 and 2002. Also in 2001, the Hoosiers ranked third in total attendance with 25,630 visiting Armstrong Stadium. In 2001, the Hoosiers averaged 2,330 over their 11 games. The following season, the Hoosiers averaged 2,195, which was second nationally.
