Exner Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior goalkeeper Haley Exner was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Oct. 30. Exner led the Hoosier defense to a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 7 Penn State on Oct. 29.
"Haley played phenomenally against Penn State," Indiana head coach Amy Robertson said. "She played her best game this season and demonstrated why she is one of the top keepers in the country."
Exner performed flawlessly in IU's upset over the Nittany Lions in University Park, Pa. The San Diego, Calif., native recorded an impressive four saves in goal for the Hoosiers, picking up her fourth shutout win of the season as PSU outshot IU, 13-5 and outcornered the Hoosiers, 8-5. Penn State had not been shut out in 38 contests.
Exner boasts a 13-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play in goal for the Hoosiers. For the season, Exner has recorded 97 saves and leads the Big Ten in save percentage (.821).
Exner claimed her fifth weekly laurel as she was also honored earlier this year on Oct. 2 and three times during the 2005 season (Sept. 12, Oct. 3 and Oct. 17).
