Hoosiers Set for Big Ten Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team will face Michigan in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in University Park, Pa., on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. EST. Indiana is the fourth seed in the postseason tournament, while the Wolverines are fifth. The Hoosiers have advanced to the conference tournament for the fifth year in a row under Mick Lyon's direction.
Thursday's game will be a rematch of Sunday, Oct. 1's contest in Ann Arbor, Mich., where the Hoosiers topped the home squad 2-1. Freshman Christie Kotynski's goal with 15:14 to play gave Indiana the victory. Fellow freshman Kristin Arnold added a goal and an assist in the victory as IU scored a pair of second-half goals. Stacey Van Boxmeer made three saves in the victory, as the Hoosiers outshot UM 14-8 in the game.
The Hoosiers enter the Tournament as the No. 4 seed, their highest seeding since 1998, when IU entered the tournament as the third seed and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. In Mick Lyon's previous four trips to Big Tens, the Hoosiers were the sixth seed in 2002, 2003 and 2005 and were the eighth seed in 2004.
Should Indiana top Michigan, it would face the winner of the Penn State/Northwestern first-round contest in a second-round matchup. That contest would we played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. The tournament final is slated for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. Penn State's Jeffrey Field will play host to all the tournament games.
