Lewis Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- For the second time in three weeks, Indiana redshirt freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Oct. 30.
Lewis, who led the Hoosiers to a 46-21 victory over Michigan State on Oct. 28, went 15-of-26 for a career-high 261 yards and career-best five touchdowns through the air. Additionally, the Jacksonville, Fla., native ran for 75 yards, including one score against the Spartans.
Lewis' five passing touchdowns tied him for the second-most in school history, joining Jay Rodgers (Sept. 13, 1997 vs. Ball State) and Tim Clifford (Sept. 27, 1980 vs. Colorado).
More impressively, Lewis' 13-yard pass to Hardy in the third quarter made him the first Hoosier to account for six touchdowns in a game since Levron Williams scored six against Wisconsin on Oct. 6, 2001. Lewis also set the record for most touchdown throws by a freshman in IU history with his 10 TD tosses this year.
Lewis was also named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16 after throwing for three scores and running for another touchdown against Iowa. He became the first Hoosier since Levron Williams in 2001 to be honored by the conference twice in one season.
