Hoosiers Climb in National Rankings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team moved up two slots to No. 12 in the Oct. 31 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Poll.
The jump in the rankings comes on the heels of Indiana's 1-0 win over then-No. 7 Penn State on Oct. 29 in University Park, Pa. The victory marked the first time in program history the Hoosiers have defeated the Nittany Lions and the first time PSU has been shutout in 38 games. After a flawless performance in goal, junior goalkeeper Haley Exner earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week honor of the season as she notched four saves in her fourth shutout win this year.
Additionally, five of IU's 2006 opponents are ranked including Ohio State (No. 5), Penn State (No. 6), Virginia (No. 10), Louisville (No. 14) and Michigan (No. 15).
IU heads to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the 2006 Big Ten Tournament, Nov. 3-5. After clinching the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive year, the Hoosiers will face seventh-seeded Michigan State in the tournament's opening game on Friday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. (EST) at UM's Phyllis Ocker Field.
