Senior back Julian Dieterle has been a key member of the Hoosiers for the past four years. He sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to the Galapagos Islands. I've heard that the scenery is beautiful, and I think it would be a cool place to go.
Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
That hard work and dedication pay off.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My mother. She's always been there to support me in whatever endeavors I choose to take on. She's always kept my best interests in mind.
What will you miss most when you leave Indiana?
The college lifestyle. It's four years where you have limited responsibilities, and four years to find yourself. You're not quite living in the real world yet, almost like it's a fantasy world. I'll miss it.
My favorite thing about Bloomington is:
There are so many new people to meet every day. Coming to college, you can venture outside of your own safety net of home and meet new people. There's always someone new to meet.
How would you describe your four years here?
A blast. It's been a great time, being able to continue to play soccer, as well as get an education. With IU soccer, it's been great being a part of something bigger than myself. It's just been a great experience.
Describe your presence on the field. What do you bring to the team?
A hard work ethic. I always try to put in my best effort. I an always vocal during games and practices, talking to the guys, whether it's about good or bad things. I think they respect that because they know that I always try to put in my best.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
When I was 14 my team won the Nike Cup, and we got to go to Barcelona and play in Camp Nou, where Barcelona plays. That's something I'll always remember, it was a phenomenal experience. Not too many people get to say they've done that.
Name one thing that you wish you were better at?
I wish I had better time management skills. I tend to put things off until the very last second. Sometimes I could save myself a lot of time and headache if I don't put things off.
What makes Indiana special from any other program?
I think the competitive nature of our program gives us an edge. Every day it's intense. Everyone on the field can play, and the second team pushes the first team. The results over the years speak for themselves.
