Inside The Illinois Game

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- As the Indiana football team heads to Illinois for its first Big Ten road contest of the season, it's time to take a look inside the numbers. The Hoosiers (2-3, 0-1) and Fighting Illini (2-3, 1-1) kick off at noon EDT/11 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Oct. 7. ESPN Plus will televise the game with Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Kelly Stouffer (analyst) on the call.
In the last meeting between the teams on Oct. 8, 2005, quarterback Blake Powers threw four touchdown passes, while wide receiver James Hardy and running back Chris Taylor each topped 100 yards to lead the Hoosiers past Illinois, 36-13.
Hardy caught 10 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns, while Taylor ran 18 times for 132 yards and one TD.
The Start Chart
Senior Justin Frye has been an anchor on the offensive line since his insertion into the starting lineup as a redshirt freshman in 2003. He has started all 38 games he has appeared in. The most versatile Hoosier linemen - he has played all five positions on the line in his career - Frye has started four games at left tackle and one at center this season.

New Faces
As the Hoosiers take the field in 2006, keep your roster close by. Seventy-two players on the 105-man roster (69 percent) are underclassmen and 49 (47 percent) are freshmen or redshirt freshmen.
Through the first five games, 24 players have seen their first collegiate action and 36 underclassmen have hit the field. Fifteen sophomores, fourteen redshirt freshmen and true freshmen Ray Fisher, Mandela Roberts, J.T. Owens, Will Patterson, Matt Mayberry, Rodger Saffold and Pete Saxon have seen action.

By The Numbers
In his eighth season as a head coach, Terry Hoeppner teams:
• have never been shut out.
• are 40-12 when they score first.

Century Club
Junior fullback Josiah Sears notched the first 100-yard rushing game of his career with 100 yards on nine carries against Wisconsin. Former Hoosier Chris Taylor was the last IU back to rush for 100 yards. Taylor netted 132 yards on 18 carries against Illinois on Oct. 8, 2005.
Grosfield Getting It Done
Senior safety Troy Grosfield recorded a career-high 15 tackles (9 solo) against Wisconsin and added a 15-yard fumble return for a score - the Hoosiers fifth touchdown return on the season. Grosfield's 15 tackles were the most by a Hoosier since Herana-Daze Jones collected the same number against Minnesota on Oct. 30, 2004.
