10 Questions With Chay Cain

Sophomore goalkeeper Chay Cain has started in 11 games this season. He recorded back-to-back shutouts against Louisville and Northwestern last week, and has four shutouts on the season. Cain sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would definitely go back to Italy. I've visited there twice before and I loved the culture, the people and the soccer atmosphere.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
It would have to be my parents for raising me. They are both great people, and they've raised me to be that way.
The best thing about Indiana is:
From a soccer point of view, the atmosphere. Indiana has led the nation in attendance almost every year, and that makes it a great place to play.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Traveling internationally during high school with the Midwest Regional team, playing in places like Italy, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Chris Munroe. When you come in as a freshman, you think you know a lot about soccer, but you realize that you have more to learn once you get here. Working with Chris every day, and seeing his work ethic and what he puts into the game every day, it's taught me a lot. He's really taken me under his wing.
Name one thing that you wish you could change about yourself?
I do wish I was taller. I get made fun of a lot by the rest of the team cause I am short.
What do you like best about Coach Freitag?
Coach Freitag instills a lot of passion into the players. You can see with him and all of the coaches that he really loves the game, and he wants us to come out and play our best every time.
What is your role on the team?
I have split time in goal with Chris (Munroe) this year, so it's my job to come out when Coach calls on me, and play the best that I can, as well as direct the backline.
My favorite thing about Bloomington is:
The atmosphere, and the people. It's a smaller town than Chicago, where I'm from. Everything is a little slower and a little more relaxed, which is one of the things that I like about it.
What are your pre-game rituals or superstitions?
Me and my roommate Brad Ring, we always turn on some music. Right before every game, I have a tradition of talking to my goalpost. I'll go up and kiss each goalpost, and touch the top and bottom.
