Alexander, Cain Recognized For No. 14 Hoosiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman midfielder Eric Alexander and sophomore goalkeeper Chay Cain were recognized on Monday, Oct. 9, by the Big Ten for their play following a two win week for the 14th-ranked Hoosier men's soccer team.
"I am very happy that Eric and Chay have been recognized for a good week of play," head coach Mike Freitag said. "Eric is an outstanding young player who is coming into his own and finding ways to help this team score, while Chay has settled in at goalkeeper. He is making good decisions and keeping the ball out of the net."
Alexander was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following a two-goal week for the Portage, Mich., native. He scored his first career goal in a 2-0 win against Louisville on Oct. 4, and tallied the only score of the game in a 1-0 victory over Big Ten foe Northwestern on Oct. 7.
It is the third consecutive week and the fourth time this season that a Hoosier has received the Offensive Player of the Week award.
Alexander was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his efforts.
Cain earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording his third and fourth shutouts of the season against Louisville and Northwestern. He tallied a season-high six saves against Louisville, with four saves against Northwestern. The Aurora, Ill., native has 29 saves on the year, with a goals against average of 0.68.
Cain is the first Indiana player to earn Defensive Player of the Week this season. He was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Indiana (8-3-2, 2-0-1 Big Ten) is currently on a six-game unbeaten streak. They are first in the Big Ten standings and are the only remaining unbeaten team in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in an in-state battle with the IUPUI Jaguars at Armstrong Stadium at 7 p.m.
