Bellville Signs Letter Of Intent To Join Men's Golf

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golf head coach Mike Mayer announced that Ben Bellville (Granger, Ind./Penn) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Indiana University beginning in the fall semester of 2007.
Bellville has put together an impressive resume of accomplishments on the golf course both at the high school and national level. This past summer, Bellville took seventh place at the prestigious North-South Junior, held at Pinehurst. He carded rounds of 75-72-69 for his finish. The Granger, Ind., native was also the first alternate for the 2006 United States Golf Association (USGA) Junior Amateur after firing a 145 (72-73) in qualifying.
Competing in five American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournaments during the summer of 2006, Bellville finished in 19th place at the Richmond Junior at Independence, wrapping up the tournament with a total of 219 (74-74-71) among some of the best junior players in the world. He also saw time on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour (PGJT) in 2006, and earned medalist honors at the PJGT Kings Island Championship with a total of 147 (75-72). Bellville also placed second at the PGJT Legends of Indiana Championship.
"I am thrilled that Ben Bellville is coming to Indiana as our newest Hoosier men's golfer," Mayer said. "Ben is an outstanding athlete as well as an outstanding student and will bring a lot to this program in both athletically and academically. Ben has a great golf swing and outstanding work ethic, and I feel that he can come in right away and help this program."
At Penn, Bellville was a member of the the 2006 Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) champions as well as the 2006 Regional champions. Individually, Bellville was a first team All-NIC honoree and captured conference medalist honors in 2005 and finished second in 2006. The sectional medalist in 2005, Bellville also advanced to the state finals in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
"I really like the fact that Ben loves to play competitive golf and plays in numerous tournaments throughout the Midwest in the summer and throughout the southern part of the country in the winter," Mayer said. "He understands the importance of playing as much competitive golf as possible throughout the entire year, and I think he is the best player in the state of Indiana in the class of 2007."
