Indiana Game Notes
• Senior safety Will Meyers recorded his team-leading fourth and fifth interceptions of the season in the first half. He collected his first pick in the first quarter and followed it up with his second in the second quarter. His five interceptions are the most by a Hoosier in a season since Jabar Robinson and Greg Yeldell each collected five INTs in 1998.
• Meyers now has six interceptions in his career and he is the second Hoosier to grab a pair of interceptions in a game this season. Junior cornerback Tracy Porter recorded a pair against Connecticut on Sept. 23. The Chesterfield, Mo., native also added his first forced fumble of the season and the second of his career later in the second quarter. Porter recovered for his first recovery of the season and the second of his career.
• Porter recorded the Hoosiers' fourth interception of the afternoon in the fourth quarter, marking the first time since Sept. 19, 1998 an Indiana team recorded four interceptions in a ballgame. The Port Allen, La., native now posted a career-high four picks in 2006 and now has 10 in his career, moving into a share of fifth place on the all-time Indiana list. Tim Wilbur (1978-82) is the IU all-time leader with 19.
• Sophomore wide receiver James Hardy caught a 7-yard touchdown at the 9:29 mark to give him his 10th receiving touchdown for the second straight season, which ranks second on IU's single-season charts. His 20 career touchdowns (in 20 career games) moves Hardy into a tie for second place with Ernie Jones (1984-87). Jade Butcher (1967-69) is the school's all-time leader with 30.
• Hardy recorded nine catches for 151 yards to net his eighth career 100-yard game and his third this season. He is now tied for second with former Hoosier Thomas Lewis with eight career games over the century mark, trailing only Ernie Jones (10) in Hoosier annals. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native has caught a least one pass in each of his 20 career games. His 151 yards receiving were his most of the season.
• The Hoosier defense forced four interceptions and one fumble in the ballgame. The five takeaways were the most this season and the most since Sept. 11, 2004 at Oregon.
• When redshirt freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis found redshirt freshman wide receiver Andrew Means for a 12-yard completion in the second quarter, Lewis became the ninth quarterback (10th time) in IU history to reach the 2,000-yard plateau in a single season. Lewis has finished the season with 2,221 yards, which ranks seventh in the IU record books.
• Lewis recorded a 62-yard scamper in the second quarter. It marked the longest run from the line of scrimmage since former running back Levron Williams raced 80 yards for a score vs. Michigan State on Nov. 10, 2001. He posted his first career 100-yard game on the ground, picking up 103 yards rushing. He passed for 290 yards, giving him 393 all-purpose yards, his second-highest total of the season. Lewis picked up 396 all-purpose yards against Minnesota on Nov. 4.
• Sophomore defensive back Joe Kleinsmith blocked a Jared Armstrong punt in the third quarter to give Indiana its first blocked punt since Oct. 29, 2005 at Michigan State (Ben Ishola).
• Freshman linebacker Will Patterson collected the first sack of his career when he brought down Painter for a 6-yard loss in the second quarter.
• Senior defensive back Troy Grosfield added a third interception in the first half - the first of his career - to give Indiana three picks in a contest for the first time since Sept. 11, 2004 at Oregon.
• Sophomore defensive back Joe Kleinsmith received the first start of his career, while sophomore Kyle Thomas earned his first career start at left tackle.
• Senior Justin Frye recorded his 45th consecutive start on the Hoosier offensive line, starting at center for the eighth straight game. Frye played all five positions on the IU offensive line in his career.
