Head Coach Mike Freitag Quotes
Opening statement: "First and foremost I would like to thank the 2006 IU soccer team for a very enjoyable season. They were a team that I enjoyed working with and one that came along way. I want to commend all the players, not just the ones on the field today, but all the members of our team. Guys that are redshirted, the guys that are reserves, my staff, the individuals that help make this program the program that it is.
Secondly, I would like to congratulate the Santa Clara team. We knew going in that it was going to be a tough game. We didn't get a score during regulation, in overtime, and when you go to penalty kicks, it can be anybody's game. I wouldn't change a thing, I'd have the same guys taking the same kicks. I just want to commend my players for the class, heart, and skill they play with."
On the senior class: "I want to commend Julian and the rest of the senior class for really showing the younger guys how it is done. I probably wasn't Julian's favorite coach at times this year, but he handled like a champion, a really classy person."
On the missed penalty kicks: "We wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the play of those guys, and they should keep their head held high."
Senior Defender Julian Dieterle On the emotions of the team: "It's obviously a disappointment as we worked hard all year. This team is one of the tightest knit groups I've been around and this is a disappointing result for us. But at the same time I am proud of how far we have come and I really feel that the finality of it all hasn't really set in yet."
Sophomore midfielder Brad Ring On the Indiana offense: "Darren Yeagle had a heck of a game. He was dangerous for them and got endline numerous times. He was unlucky to get a goal, I think we could have gotten one in the first half. But it was unlucky we didn't."
On his thoughts before his penalty kick: "We have been practicing PK's all week just in case it came to the point, I was confident as all the other shooters. I got lucky when the keeper went the other way. When you are up there you have to clear your mind. You have a lot of goal to work with, with just a little goalie."
