ANN ARBOR, Mich. - For the second straight year, junior goalkeeper Haley Exner, senior back Morgan Miller and senior forward Lydia Schrott earned first team All-Big Ten recognition, the conference announced at the 2006 Big Ten Tournament banquet on Nov. 2. Additionally, senior midfielder Rachel Telian was named Indiana's Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Exner, who enters the tournament as the league leader in save percentage (.821), picks up her second first-team honor. Heading into the Big Ten Tournament, the San Diego, Calif., native has recorded an impressive 96 saves, four shutout victories and a goals against average of 1.62. Additionally, Exner holds IU's all-time wins record with 31 career victories. Exner picked up a pair of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors this season on Oct. 2 and Oct. 30. Last season, Exner earned first team All-Big Ten honors, along with being named a second team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region.
Miller picks up her second first team all-conference laurel after leading the Hoosier defense to five shutout wins this season. The Gap, Pa., product has notched a pair of defense saves so far in 2006 to go along with 17 points off seven goals and three assists. Heading into the Big Ten Tournament, Miller leads the Hoosiers in shots with 45. Last year, Miller earned first team All-Big Ten and first team NFHCA All-Region honors.
Schrott earned her third conference accolade and her second first-team honor. The Quarryville, Pa., native leads the Indiana offense with 29 points off 12 goals and five assists. Schrott became the first Hoosier in program history to reach the 100-point plateau in a career with a hat trick performance against Northwestern on Sept. 22. The career leader in every offensive category, Schrott was tabbed Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice this season on Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. A second team All-American from a season ago, Schrott is also a three time NFHCA All-Region honoree.
Telian was honored as IU's Sportsmanship Award honoree. A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Telian has scored two goals this season, including the game winner against then-No. 7 Penn State on Oct. 29.
The second-seeded Hoosiers open play at the Big Ten Tournament with Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. (EST).
