Cain Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore goalkeeper Chay Cain has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday, Nov. 22. Cain was selected as the goalkeeper for the second team.
A sophomore majoring in accounting and computer information systems, Cain helped lead the Indiana Hoosiers to the Big Ten regular season championship and the Big Ten Tournament title. He finished the year with a 0.57 goals against average, which ranks him eighth in the country. Cain also led the Big Ten in the category. Making 56 saves on the year, he tallied a career-high seven saves against Ohio State on Oct. 14. In the Big Ten championship game, Cain made six saves in a rematch with the Buckeyes, and was named the Defensive Player of the Championship.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
Indiana finished its season with a 15-4-3 record.
