Hoosiers Topped By No. 3 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Indiana volleyball team was defeated by No. 3 Penn State, 3-0 (30-18, 30-15, 30-17), on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Recreation Building. Indiana is now 10-16 on the season with a 1-13 mark in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions improved to 24-1 with a 13-1 record in conference play.
After falling 30-18 and 30-15 in the first two frames, the Hoosiers battled back to record their best hitting percentage of the night, .119, in the third game. The Hoosiers stayed close to the No. 3 team in the country early on, as Lauren Ditteon tallied a kill to tie the score at 4-4. IU stayed within three points for a little while, but with the score at 13-10, Penn State went on a 3-0 run to open up a six point advantage and kept the lead throughout the remainder of the game. Penn State also recorded its best hitting percentage of the match, .541, in the game to top IU, 30-27.
The Hoosiers were led by Juli Pierce's 11 digs on defense. Erica Short led IU with six kills, while Gabrielle Allison had four kills, two digs and five blocks, one solo and four assisted, on the night for the Hoosiers.
Penn State was led by Megan Hodge with 17 kills while Nicole Fawcett added 15 of her own. Roberta Holehouse led the Nittany Lions on defense with 18 digs.
Indiana returns to action on Friday, Nov. 10, when it takes on Michigan State in University Gym. The match, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. ET.
